THE

The Preliminary SAT (PSAT) is a standardized test designed to measure
your ability to do college work. You can take it as early as the ninth
grade on a practice basis, but students take the exam “for real”
early in their junior year of high school. The test consists of five sections,
two verbal, two math, and one writing skills. You are given 50 minutes
for each verbal and math section, and 30 minutes for the writing section.
THE IMPORTANCE OF PREPARATION
The PSAT serves many important purposes. Most importantly, it is the qualifying
test for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). NMSC is a
non-profit educational organization which awards scholarships financed by
more than 600 corporations, private foundations, colleges and universities.
Earning a merit scholarship is impress to colleges and comes in handy since the average cost of private universities ismore than $40,000. Secondly, the PSAT offers you a
chance to see how able you are at college work and which colleges you
should apply to in your senior year.
