Hunter College High School (Hunter) is one of the best public for intellectually gifted students from the five boroughs of New York City.

Admissions

Admission to Hunter is only granted in 7th grade. 5th graders obtained level 4 in both English and Math on citywide test are eligible to take the Hunter entrance exam in their 6th grade. 175 examinees are admitted to the school out of 3000.

Hunter Entrance Exam

The entrance exam has one section reading comprehension and one section math with multiple choice questions and one essay writing section. A student’s essay will be read only if the student’s multiple choices questions are approximately 78% correct. Passing score is around multiple choice 78 out of 100 and essay writing about 4 out of 6. Exam date is usually the first Friday of January.

Preparation for the Entrance Exam

Ivy-Bound offers four levels of exam preparation. Students can take small group lessons or one-on-one private tutoring. Completing the four levels’ training, student will reach above the exam level and 90% will be granted to Hunter.
